Over 30 different sports. All in a single day. Will you have time to try them all?
On Friday, September 4, 2026, Helsinki Olympic Stadium will be filled with energy, laughter, and the joy of movement when the Finnish Olympic Committee hosts an Olympic Day, Olympiapäivä, open to everyone. The event in Helsinki is part of the International Olympic Day, which celebrates Olympic values. The stadium’s doors are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is free.
– OlympicDay is a place where the joy of movement, a sense of community, and the courage to try new things come together. You can come just as you are and move in your own way. Thousands of children and young people from schools in the Helsinki area are already on their way. I warmly encourage everyone else to come and try out different activities and be inspired by movement, says Event Manager Lauri Ijäs.
The event is organized in collaboration with the City of Helsinki, the Olympic Stadium, the TAHTO Center for Sports and Physical Activity, and a large number of sports federations, sports clubs, and partners. The event’s patron is Mika Poutala, Minister of Sports, Physical Activity, and Youth Affairs.
A day full of possibilities—discover, try, and be inspired!
This year, the Olympics Day offers a record-breaking selection of sports: visitors can try out over 30 different sports. The instructors are professionals in their respective sports. During the event, you can move freely between the various stations in the stadium.
– There’s a huge variety of activities to try out during the Olympic Day — everything from Finnish baseball to weightlifting and from figure skating to taekwondo. I think everyone will find sports that interest them at the event, says Ijäs cheerfully.
Together against loneliness
Olympic Day is the Finnish Olympic Committee’s way of participating in National Leisure Week, which is celebrated September 7–13. This year’s common theme is “Together Against Loneliness.”
– Friendship is at the heart of Olympic Day and the entire Olympic ideal, and we want to highlight its importance in our own way. We believe that sports help many people find both friends and meaningful local communities. It’s nice to be in good company — and to get moving, Ijäs sums up.
Sports clubs are an important part of Finnish society: they offer opportunities to be active, learn new things, volunteer, feel a sense of purpose, and, above all, feel a sense of belonging to a community. For many, a sports club is a place where strong — even lifelong — friendships are formed.
You can find sports clubs in your area through Suomisport’s Sporttihaku, among other resources. This service brings together recreational activities from across Finland. You can easily find sports clubs that have been awarded the Tähtiseura quality label at Tähtiseura.fi.
